OPICINA – In the night between Friday and Saturday in Opicina abusive posters of CasaPound appeared against the victims of the second trial of the Special Court. The posters were stuck on waste containers and walls, but also at the headquarters of the Jadran and Prosvetni dom.

 World Cup in Auckland: Carlotta Omari closed 22nd, Jana Germani 28th

Sailing – 6 December 2019
AUCKLAND (New Zealand) – The Olympic Sailing World Championships ended with the prizegiving not only to the world champions but also to the boats that won the the pass for Tokyo 2020. In Auckland, among the 51 boats in the 49erFX category, there were also the athletes Carlotta Omari and Matilde Distefano, who closed in 22nd place.  .  In the silver group Jana Germani and Maria Ottavia Raggio won the 28th place.

 Our teams confront with other realities: Jasmin Frandoli wins gold and silver in the Paralympic swimming

Swimming 6 December 2019
Last weekend (Saturday 30 November and Sunday 1 December) the Italian Paralympic swimming championships were held in Portici near Naples.  Among the 122 participants from 38 different clubs, was present the Slovenian athlete from Trieste Jasmin Frandoli, who for years has been defending the colors of the Triestina swimming.  Frandoli has won three medals.  Jasmin, who participates in the S 02 category, first conquered the silver in 50 backstroke style followed by the gold in the 50 breaststroke style- Frandoli won another silver with her 100 metres breaststroke on Sunday.

Matteo Parenzan (Kras) on November 14th meets the President Sergio Mattarella

ROME – The President of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella, will meet the Italian Kras player and Paralympic  Matteo Parenzan on November 14th.  In addition to our representative, the President will also receive the other athletes who won the Laurels at the Lahti European Championship and at the Paralympic Swimming World Championships in London in 2019.

Gaja tennis player Paola Cigui in the Columbus State University hall of fame

 

Tennis, 21 October 2019
Paola Cigui, one of our best tennis players of all time and currently trainer and player of the Gaja of Padriciano, received a prestigious award from the American Columbus State University on Saturday 19 October.  Cigui was in fact included in the hall of fame of the university located in the state of Georgia. Of the five potential candidates for 2019, Cigui is the one that was chosen. She had played for the University between the years 2012 and 2014.

The days of the Slovenian Olympic Committee: a plaque was awarded to the UASSI president Ivan Peterlin

The Days of the Slovenian Olympic Committee – Union of Sports Associations, took place at the Grand Hotel Bernardin in Portorose from 21 to 23 October.
This year will the 80th anniversary will be celebrated  of the Slovenian Olympic legend Miroslav Cerar, while on Tuesday 22 October various awards were given to the most deserving sports people.  On this occasions, an award was donated to President of UASSI-ZSŠDI Ivan Peterlin for his forty-year commitment to Slovenian sport in Italy.  Among the reasons for the donation of the award we read that without the support of Ivan Peterlin, many great successes would have not been achieved and that his work at the youth level was fundamental.  Since 2013 Peterlin is also president of the Union of Sports Associations of the Slovenian community in Italy with multiple and excellent results.

At the headquarters of the Trieste Press Club (Corso Italia 13, Trieste), a press conference was held to present the ‘STILL BALLIN’ project – FROM THE STREETS TO PROFESSIONAL FULFILLMENT THANKS TO BASKET funded by the European ERASMUS + Program.
The promoting partners of the project are the ASZ-USD JADRAN of Trieste and the FEDERAZIONE ITALIANA PALLACANESTRO FVG.  In addition, sports associations from other European countries are partners of the project, in particular KOŠARKARSKI KLUB SEŽANA from neighboring Slovenia, EVOLUTION ACADEMY from Belgium and STICHTING HE-RO TD from the Netherlands.

Slalom FIS in Belgium: Caterina Sinigoi third overall and first in her category

Ski, 12 October 2019
Our skier Caterina Sinigoi participated in her first FIS competition of her career in the slalom specialty on Saturday 12 October 2019 in Belgium.  After three descents the overall winner was declared.
Indeed, Caterina among 44 participants won the first place in her category, that of the prejuniores, finishing in third place overall.  Victory to the Dutch Derks Kiara.  Tomorrow, Sunday, another slalom competition.

The “Slovenian greeting to the Barcolana” presented

At the Trieste Book Center, the UASSI-ZSŠDI and the Slovenian associations in Italy which adhere to the project called “The Slovenian greeting at the Barcolana” introduced, in the presence of the president of SVBG Mitja Gialuz , the President of UASSI Ivan Peterlin and  numerous Slovenian associations operating in Italy, this year’s program. The cultural-sports program on the occasion of the 51st Barcolana.

World Cup in Japan: Jana Germani (Sirena) closes 27th

28 August – ENOSHIMA (Japan) – Sirena sailor Jana Germani, together with Maria Ottavia Raggi of La Spezie, finished 27th the first stage of the 49erFX class World Cup in which 36 crews participated and consequently did not participate in the medal race.

U23 Karst Cup: 1st Team Ružomberok, 4th Kras, in the singular 1st Morats (Marco Polo), 4th Fazi (Kras)

25 August – SGONICO – The 36th international tournament for U23 Pokal Kras – Karst Cup, organized by AŠK Kras, ended at the Sgonico Cultural Center.
In the final phase, Kras finished in fourth place, although he could have aspired at least to a podium finish, but maybe, in the crucial moments against the team of Marco Polo of Brescia, trained by the ex Kras player Wang Xue Lan, the hands of the Kras were too shaky.
The winner in the absolute singular tournament is the player from the Marco Polo club Stefano Morats, who defeated Conrad Puli (Malta) in the final for the first place. Great fourth place for the Kras player Simone Fazi.

Youth World Cup in Madrid: our Italian Karen Hervat is unlucky

22 August – MADRID – On Tuesday, August 20, 2019, the youth archery world championship began in Madrid. The Italian party has 24 participants and among them there is also our “Azzurra” Karen Hervat, who competes for the club Trieste Archery Team, trained by the former athlete of the Zarja Moreno Granzotto.
Karen was not very lucky. Among the 48 participants in the singles, in qualifying she obtained the 34th place, in the knockout phase she stopped in the first round against the Russian Mahmudova. The Russian has already taken the lead by 5: 1, when there was the reaction of our Italian team that matched the situation on 5: 5. But the additional arrow rewarded the Russian who thus eliminated the Hervat.

Friendly match: Jadran surrendered with honor against US university students (82: 100)

21 August – AQUILINIA – Just two days before the start of preparation, the first Jadran team played an interesting friendly match against the American University Butler team. The “bulldogs” of Indianapolis under the guidance of the current Boston Celtics coach Brada Stevens had in the past reached the NCAA final four (2010, 2011) for two years in a row, when the current green-and-whites player Gordon Hayward was a member of the team, before moving on to the biggest professional league.
The Jadran defended itself well against the Americans and eventually surrendered with honor losing 82: 100, but only in the end did the gap between the two formations increase.

4 August – BASOVIZZA – At the International Archery Tournament 1st memorial Alessandro Raseni, which took place on Sunday 4 August 2019 at the sports center of Basovizza, about 40 female and male athletes participated. The tournament, organized impeccably by the Zarja company, was also valid as a tournament for the acquisition of points necessary for the participation in the Italian championships.
Among the participants was our best Azzurra archer Karen Hervat, who defends the reputation of the Trieste Archery Team from Trieste. . Despite being in poor health Karen Hervat achieved the second best result with 625 points. Only the Italian champion in the student category Elia Biscardo (633 points for him), who was also a member of the Trieste Archery Team, did better than her.

Tullio Simeoni and a defibrillator “save” the life of a young volleyball player from Sokol

November 13, 2019
AURISINA – In the evening of Wednesday 13 November,during a training session, a young volleyball player from Sokol started to feel unwell,(J. G., his initials). the young woman collapsed on the ground and was having difficulty breathing. The coach and the teammates immediately understood the seriousness of the situation and called for help, while one of the players called her father Mr.Tullio Simeoni (in the picture), who has a managerial role in the Kras, and is also known to be a former emergency nurse on ambulances. The latter immediately rushed to the gym, where , with the help of a defibrillator, provided first aid to the girl. Short after an ambulance intervened and took the unfortunate eighteen year old to the hospital where she was hospitalized in the intensive care unit.

Sergio Tavčar’s new book presented in Trieste

Italian women’s championship 420 and November race: the best was Petra Gregori
November 1st, sailing


SISTIANA – From Friday 1 to Sunday 3 November, the Italian women’s championships in the 420 category and the November race (both male and female crews) were held in the bay of Sistiana.
The organizers, the sailing companies JK Čupa and Pietas Julia, carried out their task to perfection by providing the best regatta conditions for the 52 registered companies (26 women and 26 between male and mixed).  In three days nine regattas were completed.  Over 100 female and male competitors took part in the event, among them also members of our two clubs Čupa and Sirena.  Petra Gregori (Sirena), together with Irene Calici (Pietas Julia) won the fourth place.  The first place went to Michela Stefani and Jamila Estarda (SVBG), coached by Matjaž Antonaz.  Eleventh were Catherine Sedmak and Mija Skerlavaj (Sirena).  In the Noveber race none of our athletes competed.

European Cup: silver for Stefan Tomšič

Skating, September 26th
ROANA (Vicenza) -The skater of the Vipava company Stefan Tomšič (born in 2003) won the silver medal with the Italian national team in the European Cup, which was held in Roana near Vicenza.
Tomšič, a student of the Žiga Zois high school in Gorizia, participated in the youth category.  In order to win the silver he achieved a score of 87.61 points.

REPEN – In the municipal gymnasium of Monrupino, the traditional women’s Martyrs Basovizza trophy took place: this year the participants were: ŽOK Grobničan, TPV Volley Novo mesto, OK Prevalje and Zalet.  The victory went to the Zalet ahead of the PTV Volley Novo mesto, ŽOK Grobničan and OK Prevalje.

Slofest in Trieste;  great success for the sports program

TRIESTE – From Friday 22 September to Sunday 24 September took place the Slofest in the center of Trieste, in the program were included also some sporting events. As part of the European Cultural Heritage Days and the Slofest festival, a parade and a gymnastic demonstration (the Youth Parade) took place on Friday 20 September in Piazza della Borsa in Trieste, which involved around 450 children from Slovenian kindergartens and Schools.

LJUBLJANA – At the Olympic Center in Ljubljana, thanks to the collaboration of UASSI – ZSŠDI, was inaugurated the next 51st edition of the Barcolana on Monday 16 September.
As pointed out by the president of SVBG, Mitja Gialuz, who is one of the leading figures of the popular Trieste sailing event, the choice of Ljubljana was not accidental, in fact Slovenia has a rich sailing tradition, besides being a country that accumulates successes in many disciplines.

Friendship Games in Bosnia and Herzegovina: among the participants also the FVG delegation

BIHAČ – Nearly 100 young athletes from our region took part in the XVII Friendship Games held in Bihač, Cazin and Bužim in Bosnia and Herzegovina between Friday 6 September and Sunday 8 September.  Four communities each coming from a different country have joined the multidisciplinary challenge organized by the Canton of Una and Sana (Unsko-sanski kanton).  In addition to the local athletes, Bihač and the towns of Cazin and Bužim saw athletes born in 2003 or younger from Novo mesto (Slovenia) and Rijeka (Croatia) together with Italian and Slovenian sportsmen from Friuli Venezia Giulia, who were representatives of Italy.

European master: silver medal for Fabio Ruzzier

ERACLEA – From 5 to 15 September 2019 the European Master was held in Jesolo, Caorle and Eraclea with the participation of athletes from non-European countries.  Slovenia was present with 26 athletes, including the race walker from Longera Fabio Ruzzier, who won the silver medal in the 5km Race Walking event.

Table tennis; European Para Youth Games: Matteo Parenzan (Kras) youth champion

June 29th – LAHTI (Finland) – At the European Para Youth Games in Lahti, sixteen-year-old Matteo Parenzan from Kras won the gold medal in the singles class 6.
The three times absolute Italian champion has thus been able to celebrate in a great way his 16 years, in fact is birthday was five days ago. In the single round of four he dominated the field and, after the 3-0 imposed to the Finnish Aaro Makela and the Portuguese Mario Bastardo, he did not leave set (11-3, 11-3, 11-4) not even to the Israeli Gilad Skop .
After the bronze obtained in Genoa two years ago, it was therefore awarded with full merit the continental youth title.

Skiroll; ASD Mladina: full success of the two-day KO Sprint and Trofeo ZSŠDI

June 23 – Despite the heavy rain (Saturday) the two international skiroll competitions were held this weekend, organized by ASD Mladina in collaboration with the Union of Slovenian sports associations in Italy and the ZKB.
Saturday, June 22nd, the KO Sprint race took place under incessant rain and with a slippery track, valid for the third stage of the Italian Cup and for the 4th Trophy Together with Opicina. Over a distance of 200 m, Alessio Berlanda prevailed in the men’s race ahead of the reigning world champion Emanuele Becchis. In the women’s race the victory went to Lisa Bolzan ahead of Alba Mortagna and Anna Bolzan.
Sunday, June 23rd the 29th Ape Adria Grand Prix International Trophy and the 6th ZSŠDI Trophy were held. Victory, in the men’s race, went to Emaneule Becchis.
In the women’s race, Lisa Bolzan won ahead of her sister Anna. Alba Mortagna won the third place and also the Italian Youth title.
Among the companies the first place went to SD Logatec (Slovenia) ahead of Valdobbiene, an excellent third place at ASD Mladina.

Football; Basovizza: presentation of the Slovenian representative in Italy

June 15th – BASOVIZZA – In the Zarja Sports Center of Basovizza near Trieste was held the official presentation of the soccer representative of the Slovenian of the Friuli Venezia Giulia in view of the participation in the Linguistic Community Cup, for the next June 22nd, and of the Europeada, that is the European games of the language community, of June 2020. Both events will take place in Carinthia in Austria.

Skating; Inline: Metka Kuk (Polet) Italian vice-champion

June 15th – PONTE DI LEGNO (Brescia) – Metka Kuk (Polet) won the silver medal at the Italian Figure Skating Championships in the inline discipline. In the National show, held on Friday, June 14, 2019 in the locality of Ponte di Legno, Chiara Censori won, having ranked first also in the short. Censori increased his advantage after the long program scoring a total of 119.66 points, while Metka Kuk was ranked second with 110.97 points.

Basketball; The Dom was promoted to Serie D

June 9th – The Dom crowned a great season, during which it was defeated only once, with the promotion in D series. In the semifinal of the final 4 it beat Cassacco for 70-62.

Football; Final play-off Promotion: the Primorje exceeds the Codroipo and flies to Excellence

2nd June – What a special day in the Primorje house. The team of Mr. Allegretti beats the Codroipo 4-2 in the final play-off and goes to Excellence.

Volleyball; Eyof in Baku: Luca Milocco, Russia’s assistant coach, wins the gold

28 July – BAKU – Volleyball coach Luca Milocco returned to his Sovodnje / Savogna d’Isonzo with another success. At the recent European Youth Olympic Festival (Eyof), he won, as first assistant coach of the Russian women’s team under 18, nothing less than the first place. In the final for the gold the Russian girls defeated Romania 3-1 and were able to celebrate a new gold medal. Last year they won the European gold, this year, with a slightly modified line-up compared to the one of last year, they equally imposed themselves in the Olympic festival.

Athletics; National Youths: Bor athletes are second in Italy!

20/21 July – CHIARI (Brescia) – Was held in Chiari the national final phase of the Italian Championships of various combined Youth track and field events, with an excellent second place won by the Bor Atletika Trieste team composed by Roj Locatelli, Matija Pučnik and Peter Savron .
After the first day the Bor saw itself relegated only to the fifth place. But on Sunday, our athletes, after a very impressive performance, concluded the races in second place, second only to the formation that was regarded as the probable winner, that is the Athletics Castell’Alfero, which scored 14.302 points. In second place the Bor (13.640), while the third place went to the Gala Pontedera (13.186 points).

Sailing; 420 World Cup: Petra Gregori wins silver, excellent performance of Tinej and Jan

11 July – VILLAMOURA (Portugal) – At the 420 World Championship in Portugal, Irene Calici (SN Pietas Julia) and Petra Gregori (Cnt Sirena) won a sensational silver medal in the women’s group.
Also excellent was the performance of our two athletes Tinej Sterni (CNT Sirena) and Jan Pernarčič (YC Čupa) who, being very competitive, finished the world championship in 22nd place.

Figure skating; World Roller Games: to Metka Kuk (Polet) the bronze medal

4 July – BARCELONA (Spain) – The Polet skater Metka Kuk, led by Mojmir Kokorovec, won the bronze medal in the 2019 World Roller Games with the Italian national team in the short inline.
The Polet athlete thus confirmed the third place after the performance in the short. The gold medal went to the Azzurra Chiara Censor, the silver medal to the Russian Nosova.

Skiroll; Mladina first in the KO Sprint and in the Grand Prix

24th and 25th June – ŠD Mladina has organized the traditional two-day sports event for the Italian Skirol 2017. The winners in the KO Sprint were Lisa Bolzan and Alessio Berlanda, the multiple world champion. Mladina won the first place among clubs. 84 competitors attended The Grand Prix Alpe Jadran – Trofeja ZSŠDI. The winners were Alba Mortagna and Emanuele Becchis. Mladina won also in this competition the first place among clubs.

21st June – The Kras’ table tennis players, who were eliminated from the Italian A1 league last season, also abandoned the opportunity to play in the A2 league, mainly due to lack of funds.

World Cup: first place for the mountain runner Tadei Pivk

18th June – Our mountain runner Tadei Pivk from Žabnice, who competes for the club Aldo Moro, won the third meeting of the world cup World Series Sky in Livigno. He ended the competition more than two minutes before Aritz Egea (second).

In Celje the 41st meeting of young Slovenian athletes from the border regions

16th and 17th June – Almost 50 of our young athletes attended the traditional 41st meeting of Slovenian athletes from the border regions in Celje. The delegation of the ZSŠDI was set up by 40 athletes, some trainers and followers and the president of the ZSŠDI Ivan Peterlin.

Athletics; Italian youth championship: bronze medal for Meta Sterni

17th June – Meta Sterni (2000, Bor) won the bronze medal in the heptathlon with 4.692 points at the Italian youth championship in Rieti.

Table tennis; Italian championship: gold for Katja Milič, silver for Eva Carli

16th June – Katja Milič defeated in the final of the Italian table tennis championship of 2nd category in Terni her teammate at Kras Eva Carli and won the gold medal. Eva Carli won obviously the silver medal.

Artistic roller skating; Memorial Pavel Sedmak and David Bressan

9th – 11th June – Memorial Pavel Sedmak and David Bressan, an international competition in artistic roller skating organized by SŠD Polet took place in Opčine. More than 300 athletes from different countries attended the event. A lot of stars participated. We should mention Luca Lucaroni and Rebecca Terlazzi.

2nd June – Our sportsworker Jure Kufersin was decorated with the Knight’s title at the ceremony of the Republic Day in Trieste.

International Karate Cup Zgonik

28th May – In Zgonik the Shinkai klub organized the 27th International Karate Cup Zgonik. About 245 athletes from 20 clubs from Slovenia and Italia attended the event, of whom 31 were members of Shinkai club.

28th May – From Friday 26th to Sunday 28th May, the NK Kras Repen organized a youth football tournament in Repen. The Team of Piran Portorož reached the first place. Second place for Koper, third for Izola and fourth place for Kras. Fifth place for Breg, who eliminated Domio with 2:0.

27th May – Our roller skater Martina Pecchiar reached for the Italian national team an excellent third place at the international German Cup in Freiburg. First place for the world champion Silvia Nemesio from Rome.

Breg promoted to C-league gold

24th May – Breg Mediachem won also game two of the Finals of C-league silver against San Daniele (67:60) and was for the first time in his story promoted to the C-league gold.

Historic success for Sokol

12th May – Sokol, before the end of the regular season of D-league, defeated Geatti Udine (77:53) and was promoted in the C-league silver. This is a historic success, because Sokol never played in such a high league.

30th April – Dolina, the Dolga Krona organized from Friday 28th to Sunday 30th April a Stage of the European Cup. 30 equestrians from Italy and Austria attended the event, with a great first place for Patrik Kosmač (Dolga Krona) and a second place for Irina Pockar (Dolga Krona).

Francesca Roncelli European champion

29th April – Our roller skater Francesca Roncelli won with the Italian national team the title of European champion. She competed with Cinzia Roana, Michela Mezzari and Dalila Laneve (coaches Sabrina Scatizzi and Stefania Poli).

Silver medal for our archer Karen Hervat

21st April  – Our archer Karen Hervat (Ascat Trieste) won the silver medal with the Italian national team (with Ester Coerezzo and Aiko Rolando) in the first stage of the European Youth Cup in Greece. Germany won the gold medal.

Table Tennis: Ana Bržan promoted to the A1-league

9th April – Ana Bržan (club Vallecamonica from Brescia) reached in Terni the promotion to the A1-league in table tennis.

Primorje promoted to promotion league

2nd April – Primorje defeated Cormonese (6:1) and two games before the end of regular season reached the promotion in the football promotion league.

“Pinocchio”: excellent Caterina Sinigoi

1st April – Skier Caterina Sinigoi (Devin, coach Aleš Sever), after an excellent 6th place in the slalom at the international Pinocchio sugli sci in Abetone, reached also an excellent 6th place in the giant slalom.

Basketball tournament “Zmagajmo vsi”

31st March – The Fund Mitja Čuk organized the 14th international Basketball Tournament “Zmagajmo vsi”. 8 teams from our region and Slovenia attended the event.

Caterina Sinigoi (Devin) second in Italy

29th March – Three members of the BDM team (Brdina, Devin, Mladina) attended this year’s Pinocchio sugli sci: Alan Taucer (Brdina), Gaia Ruzzier (Devin) and Caterina Sinigoi (Devin). Caterina Sinigoi reached the second place among 150 of the best skiers in Italy. First place for Beatrice Sola.

Kristian Vidali twice regional champion

26th March – The swimmer Kristian Vidali (Rari Nantes) won the absolute regional championship in the 50 m breaststroke (30,02) and in the 100 m breaststroke (1:05,25). He reached a silver medal in the 200 m breaststroke (2:22,02).

Francesca Roncelli Italian champion

19th March – Our roller skater Francesca Roncelli won the title of Italian champion and reached the qualification for the European championship in Nantes and for the world championship in Nanjing. The group Celebrity (Federica Roncelli, Cinzia Roana, Michela Mezzari and Dalila Laneve with the choreography of Sandro Guerra) was definitely the best.

Čezmejno smučarsko prvenstvo in Gorizia

12th March – Ginevra Gabrielli (SCI Club Due, Ronchi) won the goriško čezmejno prvenstvo among women, Miha Sirk from Nova Gorica (SK Gorica) among men in Piancavallo. Among teams first place for Sci Club Due, second place for SK Gorica, third place for SK Matajur.

Bronze medal for Matteo Parenzan (Kras)

7th March  – At the paralympic tournament in table tennis in Lignano Matteo Parenzan (Kras) won the bronze medal.

Martin Kranner passed away

2nd March  – At the age of 99 (he was born in Žabnice on October 30th 1918) passed away our longtime sports and educational worker Martin Kranner.

Jaš Farneti in Simon Sivitz Košuta ended their journey

1st March – Our best sailors and “azzurri” Jaš Farneti and Simon Sivitz Košuta (JK Čupa, 1991) decided to break their collaboration in the 470 Olympic class. They did non get the financial assurance to prepare for the Olympics 2020 in Tokyo.

Second place for Tea Ugrin

26th February – Our gymnast Tea Ugrin (Artistica ’81) reached a second place in the first stage of the Italian A1-league in Torino.

“Trieste Azzurra”: several of our representatives

25th February – On Saturday February 25th in the Trieste Azzurra more than 90 athletes from Trieste attended the ceremony Trieste Azzurra. Among the 94 athletes who received the awards were also our “azzurri”: Dana Tenze (skiroll), Matteo Parenzan (paralympic, table tennis), Cecilia Fedel and Carlotta Omari (sailing), Martina Pecchiar, Metka Kuk and Francesca Roncelli (roller skating); absent: Karen Hervat (archery), Jaš Farneti and Simon Sivitz Košuta (sailing, Čupa), Jan Pernarčič (sailing, Čupa).

18th February – Skier of SK Devin Caterina Sinigoi won the regional champion title in ski cross in the competition “Pinocchio sugli sci” organized by SC Piancavallo.

Nada Čok is the new president of JK Čupa

17th February  – Our radio and television journalist Nada Čok is the new president of JK Čupa. The former president was in the past 8 years Roberto Antoni.

Klavdij Grbec passed away, our first athlete at the national championship

16th February – At the age of 77 Klavdij Grbec (1939) passed away. He was a tennis table player for Bor, and he war our first athlete who attended a national Italian championship in 1959 in Livorno.

“Zamejsko” ski championship: the champions are Katrin Don and Ivan Kerpan

22th January – In Forni di Sopra the SK Brdina and ZSŠDI organized the 35th Zamejsko ski championship and the ZSŠDI Cup. 125 skiers attended the event. The champions are Katrin Don (Brdina) and Ivan Krpan (mladina). The best young skiers are Petra Kalc (Brdina) and Ivan Santagati (Mladina). Among clubs, first place for SK Brdina, second place for ŠD Mladina, third place for SK Devin, fourth place for SPDG, fifth place for Planinska družina Benečija. In the youth competition first place for Mladina, second place for Brdina and third place for Devin.

“Zamejsko” championship: Pino Lakovič and Lejla Juretič are the champions

21st January – The Žiga Zois institute and the section of SST from Kras organized in Šempolaj the “zamejsko” championship in chess. 42 chess players attended the event. The champions are Pino Laco Lakovič, Lejla Juretič. Jasna Brecelj is the champions in the category Under 16.

The former president of Zarja Ivan Brass passed away

12th January – The former president of ŠD Zarja (from 1977 to 1972 and from 1973 to 1983) passed away at the age of 89 years.

International competition in orienteering

8th January – 200 athletes attended the international competition in orienteering “Brez meja”, organized by AŠD Gaja and ZSŠDI.

50 years of our Basketball

BRIŠČIKI – On the 11th of January was organized a celebration to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the establishment of organized basketball movement of Slovenes in Italy. It was a great opportunity to present the book “50 years of our basketball”, edited by Branko Lakovič and written by Branko Lakovič, Niko Štokelj and Veronika Sossa with the translations in Italian language ensured by Sergio Tavčar and Albert Voncina. On the same day it was presented also the wall of fame in the gym at Rouna with the pictures of 13 important people for our basketball: Drago Gantar, Egon Kraus, Renato Štokelj, Vili Prinčič Adriano Sossi, Mario Mari, Stojan Kafol, Peter Starc, Peter Brumen, Branko Lakovic, Sergio Tavčar, Marko Ban and Boris Vitez.

Renato Štokelj received the Bloudkova Plaketa

BRDO PRI KRANJU – Renato Štokelj received on the 15th of February this year’s Bloudkova Plaketa, the highest award for sportsmen, sportswomen and sports workers in Slovenia. The former president of KK Bor received the award from the former Olympic champion and member of the Olympic Committee of Slovenia Miro Cerar.

TRŽIČ – On the 12th of July took place the prize giving ceremony “Zlati let”, organized by the Primorski dnevnik and the ZSŠDI.
